چکیده
This paper examines some of the consequences of the introduction of on-line Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for the social politics of neighbourhoods and the public sphere more generally. Summarizing a number of recent theorizations of neighbourhood informatization, the article provides examples of on-line GIS in the UK and considers some of the possible implications of the use of such technologies for contemporary debates about citizenship in the context of processes of ‘splintering urbanism’. Arguing that social citizenship is best understood in terms of varying forms of ‘proactive’ or ‘defensive’ engagement, the paper explores the relationship between virtual decision making about neighbourhood choice and the impact of aggregated virtual decisions ‘on the ground’, before going on to consider how differentiated forms of engagement are producing new forms of social exclusion in changing urban spaces.

Studies conducted in the field of behaviour show that the necessity of noticing and determining urban space behaviour in field studies as well as surveys on dynamic small spaces is undeniable. Small urban spaces, including people-oriented spaces, involve social interactions. This study aims to consider the effect of small urban spaces on the volume of people’s social interactions and participat...
متن کاملThe Neighbourhood Polynomial of some Nanostructures
The neighbourhood polynomial G , is generating function for the number of faces of each cardinality in the neighbourhood complex of a graph. In other word $N(G,x)=sum_{Uin N(G)} x^{|U|}$, where N(G) is neighbourhood complex of a graph, whose vertices are the vertices of the graph and faces are subsets of vertices that have a common neighbour. In this paper we compute this polynomial for some na...

Occupational Mobility and Living in Deprived Neighbourhoods: Housing Tenure Differences in ‘Neighbourhood Effects’ The literature on neighbourhood effects suggests that the lack of social mobility of some groups has a spatial dimension. متن کاملSense of Place and Health in Hamilton, Ontario: A Case Study
The concept of sense of place has received considerable attention by social scientists in recent years. Research has indicated that a person's sense of place is influenced by a number of factors including the built environment, socio-economic status (SES), well-being and health. Relatively few studies have examined sense of place at the neighbourhood level, particularly among communities exhibi...
